I'm a new collector just getting my first Hodaka motorcycles last week. I have been looking for a project for quite some time now and finally by posting a local craigslist ad found these beauties only 5 miles from my home. They are a pair of 1970 Ace 100B models bought new by a husband and wife in Harlowtown, MT in 1970. They stopped riding them in 1989 and parked them in their garage. The tanks had been drained. They still have the original tires on them and not even a weather check. 537 miles on the wife's and 1,386 on the husband's. Only ridden on mountain roads. They are completely stock and original right down to the unopened tool kits and the undertank air pumps that have never been used. it is truly an unbelievable find. I am also in the process of procuring 3 1973 Wombat 125s that the original owner has in his storage. These are similar finds. I will be bringing all 5 bikes out to the 50th Hodaka Days in 2014. ~Clint Pullman

Clint, what a fantastic score!! See you in Athena! ~Paul

Matt Glascock's very nice Super Rat with work done by Hodaka Dave.

I wish you a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. ~Tore
Tore owns the only Hodaka I know of in Norway!

This is Claudio's bike, from Fiera Novegro, Italy. It is one of a very few Hodaka bikes in Italy, and it is a beauty!

Here are a few pictures from my Mom's birthday party, and the reveal. The day was perfect and the party was to. My Mom was overwhelmed and at one point said, "I thought I would never see it put back together." In one picture you'll see a shadow box that we put together, it includes: the original title, registrations from 1965-1967, the original tank emblems, gas cap, and mud flap. In addition there are pictures of each of us kids, as well as my Mom and Dad on the bike when it was new. Again I want to thank you and your team for your assistance and guidance throughout the project, I could never have accomplished it without your help. - Steven D. Knisley, Hodaka Club Member #500

I just wanted everyone to know that Steve rebuilt his Dad's Ace 90 from the ground up. His dad has passed, but it was sure a great joy for his mom to see it finished. Steve, we are so proud of you! -Paul

I’ve sent you a picture of my 98 race bike before.  I just love the look with the Tony D front, Clarke YZ tank and stock rear fender.  The motor on this bike is stock and it sports the HT2 pipe I purchased from you nearly 4 years ago . - Mike James

Thanks for all your help, advice and patience.  It's finished and back on the road and trails.  Rode it 15 miles even though it was under 40 degrees and smiled the whole time. Here are a couple pics of the finished project.

Great work, Kary!

Mark Hall from Oklahoma with his beautiful Thunderdog!

Our good friend and Hodaka Club member coordinator Bill Chapman has done one heck of a great job on his newly restored model (03) Wombat.

My "new" 1977 250 SL. The Preston Petty fenders that I got from you, really complete the restoration. Thanks so much for making these available. I know the tank was originally white, but I prefer the red. So there it is. (my apologies to the Hodaka purists) I had the frame powder coated with RAL # 5011 (steel blue) which I found to be a very close match to the original color. The bike runs great, and I was only able to complete this project because all the quality parts that you have to offer.Thanks. ~Tom

Here's a few pics of my wombat that I recently finished. It's a model 94. I did it to look like the prototype. I like the red/orange color much better than black. NOS wheels. The front is off an 03 wombat. All the red/orange parts were powdercoated. I took the engine apart to bare cases and replaced all the bearing and seals, rebuilt the clutch. Nos cylinder and piston. Everything else was glassbeaded and redone, even all the nuts and bolts. glassbeaded and redone, even all the nuts and bolts. Hope you like it. Mike Hawkins.

I thought I'd share a pic of my '73. The pic is a few years old. But the bike's been restored, is ridden and cosmetically maintained as best I can for a bike that still sees trails and dirt.  Roger in Austin

Here are photos of my 1968 Hodaka Ace 100 project I just completed. I would like to thank you and your staff for all of your assistance. The bike turned out better than expected. I started with a one owner bike with 653 miles, but needed everything. I either painted, powder coated, re-chromed or replaced with a new item. It was a little more expensive than planed, but the finished project was well worth it. This was my 1st motorcycle which I ended up racing both flat track and motocross with in central PA in 1968. I was only 11, but did OK against the Yamaha's of that period. Thanks again, Tom Mohnal

Kenny Redelsperger's great looking Hodaka

Pictures of my 1970 super rat. I have had this bike since 1992. It had been literally in a shed for 22 years. The previous one owner had ran it into something and bent the forks back. He put it up and never rode it again. It has the original Nitto tires, perfect original fenders, original super rat decal, shocks, mud skirt, seat, etc. The bottom picture is me riding my 1971 super rat when it was new. Check out the gear! Safety first! That's a K mart special helmet, duckbill, and a taped up football guard. I raced moto cross on this bike two seasons. It was totally destroyed in a good way when I sold it. I raced a Combat Wombat after this bike. I have no pictures of that bike...it broke every time I raced it...Charlie Stevenson.

In the mid '70s we had a large riding area that was about 50 yards from Bonnett Cycle in Cedar Rapids, IA.  Bonnetts sold Maico, CZ and Hodaka.  Pretty convenient for kids without driving licenses. These photos from back in the day might bring back some memories for some of the readers. The photos are of the B+, the Combat and #853 Combat.  Most of these photos are at either a 4 hour hare scrambles at Iowa City or a motocross at Wendy Oaks Racetrack near Stone City, IA. Dan Van Woert

Thought you might get a kick out seeing this picture. It appeared in the January 22, 1971 issue of Life Magazine. That's me on the Bonanza. My family had several Hodaka powered bikes including two Steens' 100cc's. Thanks for keeping Hodaka alive. Steve Sisco

'Some before and after pictures of my 01 squirt, this is my first Hodaka. Hodaka Dave helped me tremendously by building the motor and fabricating some parts on the bike, and Bill Cook helped me out also. We plan to compete in the three ISDT weekends for sure and if the good lord is willing and the job keeps going I hope to get three more races to qualify enough points for the cross country nationals. See ya at the races.

'Here are pictures of two Hodakas we have just about finished. We wouldn't have been able to get them to where they are without STRICTLY HODAKA. The Wombat was a Christmas gift for my father Gordon Byrne. We were able to give him a running bike for Christmas. The look in his eyes was priceless! He raced in the desert back in the 70's. So to everyone and Strictly Hodaka THANK YOU!!!'
Mike & Stacy Ragan

Thanks for all your help. Am working this winter on an Ace 100 bought from the original owner that I want to sell in the spring. Duncan and I are working on the Challenger. Pic of progress as of a few months ago. Exhaust will be something to sort out. regards Dave

Dan Dillion's great find; Like so many out there who rode Hodaka in their hey day, I decided after 35 years, to try to at least replace the Dirt Squirt I last had owned, that didn't need a massive amount of restoration before I could ride again and enjoy. Shopping locally and Ebay, I had about given up hope. I checked the Market Place section on the "Strictly Hodaka" web site and a small non-photo ad caught my eye. A special thanks goes out to Mike and Debora Kreatz of MN. for making my dream and goal come true, and taking such wonderful care of these great bikes over all these years. I couldn't have hoped for two finer un-restored examples of Hodaka.

I picked the bike up in louisville, ky. about 15 yrs. ago in sad state,,,,,with some help from lynn wineland @ target motorsports it's now back to almost new form.....in early 70's i raced a super rat against about 5-6 rickmans in district 17 in illinois and they were the bike to beat......after retirement i had to have one. -Larry Tucker

What a great shot of our good friend Jeff Wynn on his Hodaka Super Combat during the 2006 Elsinore Grand Prix ! Thank you Jeff for sharing the shot with us.

District 36 Cross Country Race at Carnegie sponsored by the Red Neck Roosters ( Their 20th Annual!!)  This was race 4, which was for begging women, divas and vintage, I was the only vintage foul to show up. 'I was 14 when I bought a used Yamaguchi strictly for trials riding. I ran it for about a year with the original 50cc engine. Later, I bought a Hodaka 90cc engine, and with just a little grinding on the original frame, it bolted right in. Now that was a trial bike, it was great little bike. Pics, circa 1966-69. The group shot has a picture of the bike with the original engine still in it. That's me trying to keep my feet on the pegs through the mud at a trials event held near Baltimore, Md. The upper left hand corner shot is me on a 350cc Kawasaki Avenger next to my trial trophies. Also attached is an old Hobby Center ad for the Yamaguchi.   - Ray Burt Jr. Centreville, Virginia.

I thought  you might like to see my  1974 wombat and MX  (mongrel) which I have fitted with a H100 Honda engine, I know this may upset some people but original Hodaka spares are as easy to find in the U.K. as  rocking horses--- Thanks from Raymond, Norfolk England

Paul, I recently finished my ACE 90. Could you please update the picture on your website with this new picture I attached, thanks, Jeff Noble (Maple Valley, WA.)

This is an old picture, taken in 1974. I worked across town bussing tables at a local restaurant and I would push my bike across the highway. I would coast downhill through a residential neighborhood to get to the railroad tracks where I fired my bike up. I had to do things this way since the my Hodaka was not street legal and I was only 14 years old.    Thanks again for a great site dedicated to a truly great bike.  Sincerely Daniel Dillon

I attached a pic of my Road Toad please take a look. Thanks for all your help with my restoration. Jeffrey Stucki

Kolby gave her senior project presentation today and it went well.  It raised quite a stir rolling through the hall at school. Here is a picture of the completed bike and one of her presentation.  We still need to get a few things on it for the HD 08 show but it's coming along nicely.

Thanks again for the help.

Here's my story... In 1975 my grandfather bought this bike.  He told my grandmother it was for me but I was only 3!  He rode the bike everyday with his little dog Brownie in a basket he attached to the front.  The newspaper even stopped him one day for a pic of him & his dog.  He passed away in 1977, and therefore had never seen me ride it.   My father then rode it around on short trips until...  Years later, I rode the wheels off it.  At one point, in an accident I do not remember, it landed me in the hospital for a week with a torn eyelid and lower lip...   We fixed her up and I continued to ride it until 1988 when I parked it and got ready to go off to college.   I pulled her out about 7 months ago.  My intention was simply to make her look good and hang it from my shop ceiling along with a framed pic of my grandfather and his dog.  After locating you, I changed my mind and now have her running strong.   My little boy is only 4 1/2 but is already on a gas powered quad and one day may also be able to ride the Dirt Squirt.  How many bikes can say they had four generations from one family on them?!?

Just a Thank you for your guidance and advice, my Wombat
is back on the road with the new piston and getting gently broken in.
Thought you might like to see the motorcycle you helped.
My Dad bought it from a family friend for my 15th birthday, I learned to
ride and operate a motorcycle on my Wombat.  I went away to college and
took it with me,  it was my cool campus ride not to mention cheap on the
non-exisiting money flow.  After I graduated I put the Wombat away for a
while.  I'm now 36 and after 15 years of rest I returned the Wombat to the
road.  I love this little motorcycle and will ride it until I can no
longer swing my leg over it.  Thanks again for all the parts and friendly help.

Just wanted to forward a photo of George Cone and (my wife)  Phillis. I recently acquired a 125 Wombat in dire need of restoration. I learned about George from your website and the rest is history. I live just north of OKC, about 30 miles from George, so I get to visit his shop fairly often. He's done a complete engine rebuilt for me, and has guided me through the restoration process. He's an amazing guy and I'm convinced nobody knows more about these old bikes than him. He has plenty of parts and doesn't mind sharing his knowledge and experience. Good stuff all around. ~  Al Stone

Paul & Patti, I am kind of new to the Hodaka family, but better late than never because I really love these super bikes.

A few months ago, a friend of mine introduced me to Mr. George Cone in Mustang, Oklahoma.  George is

without any doubt one of the nicest guys that I have ever met, and he has a large inventory of Hodaka

parts and supplies.  Anyway, I asked George to help me build a motorcycle, which is something that

I had always wanted to do.  We dug out an old 175SL rolling chassis from his collection and went to

work.  George did a complete rebuild on the engine (which will now start on the first kick), and I painted

and polished up the rest.  Together, we got the rest of it together and you can see from the pictures

what a beautiful bike it is!  When I look at it, I feel like I could now die and go to heaven!

I hope you can find a spot for it on your website with a special thanks to George Cone, it was a real

pleasure to do business with him.

HODAKA FLAT TRACKER  I Bought it in 1969.  It was originally a 1966 Ace 90.  I bought a 100cc engine for it when Pabatco ran the special for $99.00 in '69 or '70. I raced it in several versions,  both mx and flat track until about 1972.  I bought the Webco 100cc barrel for it. The tank is the small trackmaster 250 tank.  I traded for the old style Ceriani forks.Started racing big bikes and pretty much shoved the Hodaka on the back burner.  It lived in the rafters of my garage until about 4 years ago.  I saw a flier for some vintage races in Carson City. It was about the only place around to race a flat track version of a Hodaka. I got all the pieces together, and got some small parts from you, and put it together.    Steve Brizendine

Since Steen's are kinda rare on web sites - I thought I'd share my Steen picture with you, It's still in process. The Ace 100 runs great, yes the tank is fiberglass and will "fender it" soon - the Preston Petty's were taken off for cleaning - The "before" pictures are a site to see, had to remove twisted vines that were growing thru the front spokes.

Steve Hasse has a very very clean Combat Wombat here. He knows the tank is
not the correct one but still sure looks good !

Ron Kahan of Jupiter, Florida

I finally finished an '03 Wombat (though of course you'll note I took liberties in installing an older 125 engine (rebuilt by George Cone) and adding the decal(s) of my liking). Hope you aren't offended by my personalizations (as opposed to doing a purist restore back to original). Like most of the Hodaka enthusiasts out here, I couldn't have completed the bike without your help, both for parts and expert technical advice. I can't wait to get started on the next project and daily lament that I won't be at Hodaka Days to share the "Hodaka Experience" with yourselves and fellow Hodie lovers. BEFORE & AFTER

WOW is all we can say !!

"Attached are a few photos of my recently completed 71 Super Rat.  It makes a nice pair next to the 69 Ace that I did last year.  This Rat is a very low time machine that still has it's original Nitto's, sprockets and std. bore.  I have gone through the entire thing, re-zinc plating everything including the spokes.  It truly looks as though it just came out of the crate, complete with original owners manual and tool bag with plug wrench.  Thank you again for all your work with all of us and Hodaka, you are the greatest! 3 MONTH RESTORATION

Here's a few shots of my 1972 wombat. My dad bought me one of these for christmas in 1972. The wombat was my first motorcycle at the young age of 12. I had been looking for a good restoration bike to restore for the last year and finally found this bike in Indiana. The bike had been sitting for quite sometime and was showing 859 miles on the odometer. The thing was that it was all there. After a three month restoration and lots of new parts from you guys here she is...........

Thanks for the help,
LD Holland

Hello Paul, the bike with the new tank, looks good doesn’t she? Also ground 4mm off needle jet… runs great. Went from a 159 Q-6 up to a modified Q-8. Before altering the Q-8 was to fat. Needle is a 6DH4.

Hodaka Road Racer
Yes, that road racer runs! It belongs to a man named "Jerry Shields" Of Yakima Washington. It is reputed that Harry Taylor or Harrys brother had some influence in the engine and/or pipe design. It is totally hand built, and has a Betor front end. It is totally utilitarian, and meant to do one job, and that is go very fast. Please post it on the site, Jerry would be quite honored!

Finished Ace 100
Here are some pictures of my finished Ace 100. The vin plate indicates that it was manufactured in Sept. of 71', and I assume that makes it a 72' model. (Frame # A 605--). I was the original owner of this motorcycle (# 495.00 out the door) and used it for cheap transportation while attending college several years ago.I was able to buy it back from the man that purchased it from my father ($ 50.00 ) . It had been stored in a barn for the past 15 years and had suffered from the hands of a young boy. Needless to say it took quite a bit more time and money to rebuild , repaint, rewire, derust and debug than I had anticipated It was a fun and satisfying experience. The bike looks nice and it runs well too! Thanks to you for keeping the parts available and thanks for the advice,it was very helpful.

1973 Dee was AMA's #1 Texas Women's Rider 1973....So - there ya go. When not riding with the women - I rode with the guys. They didn't like it too much as I beat their rears up. Even my sponsors I beat. Rode in the 125 Intermediate and 200cc class with a 125. When I quit racing I had over 200 trophies. My favorite ones were the men's races that I placed.

Our last track day of the year at Beaverun racetrack in western Pennsylvania. Those dirt squirts of mine are work bikes - my fellow course marshall and I use them as our pit scooters, and we ride them to the scene whenever people crash - you can go motocrossing across the infield and get there more quickly than you can with a motor scooter.

My latest Hodaka acquisitions/restorations
I wanted to share my latest Hodaka acquisitions/restorations with you. When I purchased these last two bikes on ebay approx 8 months ago I promised my wife that would be it. My Hodaka collection currently is now at five completed (unfortunately, it will probably have to stop at five). The 73 Combat Wombat I purchased out of Indianapolis. The engine was in perfect shape having just been rebuilt. I powder-coated the frame, had all chrome parts including the tank and fenders re-chromed, and painted all other metal parts. All rubber parts and the seat replaced via Steve.

Latest (and probably last) additions to my Hodaka Collection
The 72 Super Rat I purchased out of Tulsa,Okla. I don't know if I could have purchased a cleaner bike anywhere!!...This bike looks as though it STILL belongs on the showroom floor!!....The engine had just been rebuilt by your friend George Cone. The frame, even the engine cases had been powder-coated. The ONLY thing I had to do with this bike was re-chrome both fenders, for they were scratched ever so slightly.....Thanks to both of you for your help and guidance over the last few years as I continue to re-live my teenage/childhood years!!....I still hope to get this collection up to Athena very soon, hopefully for the next "Hodaka Days"....

I have just finished my Ace 100 restoration and thought you might like to see the finished product. It runs great and starts first kick every time. Bill Maynards FANTASTIC looking bikes!
Here are my three bikes that I have finished. The 1970 Ace 100, the 74 (orange tank) rat, and the 74 Super Combat. These three bikes I completely went thru over the last two years. Every frame powder-coated and every nut and bolt re-chromed or replaced. The bikes run as well as they look. I'm very proud of these bikes. I thought I'd share them with you.

Jeff Steimle
Here is a couple of pics of my 73?(man. date 12/73) Dirt Squirt. I built it by buying two rolling basket cases that were both rust buckets. After a lot of rebuilding, cleaning, painting and of course a healthy helping of parts from Strictly Hodaka I ended up with a pretty clean little bike that gives me big grins every time I ride it.

1973 Combat Wombat that was restored by my father and myself with the help of your great parts. My dad bought a new one in '73 and I used to chase him on my XR75. Hey Paul, I love your site. It's been really helpful. I'm restoring my dad's old hodaka. It's an ace 100 that he modified into a super rat. The tag says it was made in 1972. It's kind of ironic because he bought the bike when he was 19 and i'm restoring it when i'm 19 (30 years later). it's in pretty good shape considering it's been in a shed for the last 20 or so years. I included a couple of pictures of before and some when i'm almost done.

Thought I would send you a couple of shots of the 1969 Ace 100 after its recent refurbishment. I bought this bike new here in Renton WA, in 1969,had it street legal till 1983, then went to ORV tabs till now. With the refurb, it is street legal once again. With the sandblasting and powdercoating of the frame, this refurb was nearly $1000, this for a bike that I paid $375 for in 1969. Hodaka insanity!!!

Frank Celenza Jr. DDS
Hi Paul, I spotted your trailer at the side of the New Jersey Turnpike, on Sun. Feb 3 I couldn't believe my eyes when it said "Strictly Hodaka" on it and it took a quick spotter to get the website. Anyway, back in the mid-70's I had a Super Rat that I trailed and then began racing Motocross on at Bridgehampton, on Long Island. It was a fantastic and fun bike that I could completely disassemble and rebuild quite easily, and did many times. Herre is an old photo on my hodaka

Found a dirt squirt in someones garbage the other day and neither my son nor I were familiar with the name Hodaka. Turns out it may have been a good find. The chain is missing, but it turns over and I'm confident we'll have it running soon. About an hour ago my son popped in and commented "thats one sweet ride". At sundown yesterday the Squirt was laying around his driveway. Check it out now. From garbage to street in 2 days!

Really enjoy your website. I have attached a photo of my 1970 ACE 100 for your scrapebook. I ran across it a couple of months ago, it had been in storage for years, it has only 2,150 miles on the speedometer. In 1971 I was in high school. I saved my tips from working as a car hop at Steak & Shake in Rock Hill, Missouri and bought a brand new 1971 ACE 100B (I still have the original owners manual from that long gone bike). This bike brings back all those great memories! ~

Dave Hansen, Moss Landing CA
I'm a life time AMA member and have been involved in motorcycles most of my life. No one in my family had been involved with bike before me and now my Mom and my sister both have bikes! My moms husband Fred gave me the Wombat he used to provide bike service during the 60's-80's out of his garage in Olympia, WA where they still live. He knew I would do it justice as all my bikes are constantly polished! It was very rusty and but thank goodness it had been in his garage. He got it from some guy in Idaho who turned it into a racer way back when to try to take on the Honda Elsinors (poor guy). As you can see in the pictures....there is a GEM reed valve and larger carb mounted on the bike.

'71 Super Rat Won Best
We got the parts and entered the Super Rat in the local Classic Car/Motorcycle Show in Elk Grove California. The Super Rat is my daughter's, I just get to work on it and drive it until she is big enough, and we have been restoring it for the last few years. We finally decided to order the final cosmetic parts and get it all finished-up (thanks for the quick response, and the beautiful parts) in preparation for the local car and bike show. Well, needless to say the Super Rat was quite the hit. I never knew that so many people had their first ride on a Hodaka. We spent all afternoon telling people the story behind the bike (it was given to us from the original owner who had it sitting in his airplane hanger for 20 years) and how we worked on it with the help of Strictly Hodaka. When it came to the awards for the day, the old '71 Super Rat won Best Motorcycle. My daughter was thrilled, I don't think that the owner of the $30k custom Harley was to excited, and is looking forward to putting it in the Autorama this February. This will be quite-a-bit larger and have Cars and Motorcycles from around the country. I'll let you know how we end-up. Thanks so much for everything, you made a nine year old (and 38 year old) very happy.

T thought I'd send a picture of my '71 Ace 100 B. I grew up riding Hodakas in the 60s and early 70s. My grandfather owned a BMW motorcycle dealership in the 50s, 60s and 70s and sold Hodakas through the 60s and into the early 70s. We rode them all over Oregon. My brother (Grant) and I are in the process of restoring several 60s vintage BMWs left to the family (severely neglected) and we're also restoring a couple of Hodakas and using a couple more for fun. I found my '71 Ace 100 B a few days ago stored away in some guy's shop for the past 22 years. It has 529 miles original miles on it and a little scrubbing produced an almost new Ace 100.
